So... You're Thinking About

Auditioning?

We know. Auditions are intimidating.

Take a breath. It’s not nearly as scary as you think.

So... What Actually Happens?

FIRST, WE TALK.

Before we sing a single note, we want to get to know you.

We’ll talk about your musical experience, the places your journey has taken you, and what you’re hoping to find in BeckRidge. We’ll talk about your aspirations, the music you love, and maybe even the music that gives you goosebumps.

Because before we get to know your voice, we’d like to get to know you.

THEN... WE SING.

Once we’ve had a chance to get to know each other, we’ll spend a little time exploring your voice and musical skills. We’ll give you plenty of help along the way.

YOUR VOICE

We’ll explore your range, where your voice feels strongest, and how it moves through different parts of that range.

YOUR MUSICAL EAR

We’ll play a few notes and ask you to sing them back. There are no tricks. We simply want to get a sense of how you hear the musical relationships you’ll encounter in rehearsal.

A LITTLE SIGHT-READING

Yes, there’s some sight-reading. No, we’re not handing you a Bach chorale. The exercise is four-measures, in a major key, and we’ll even give you the first five pitches. No charge!

And Finally... Just Sing.

We’ll ask you to sing the melody of “My Country, ‘Tis of Thee.” No surprises. No unfamiliar notes. Just a chance for us to hear your voice when you’re singing something you know and can sing with confidence.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Things You Might Still Be Wondering

Everything you need to know before taking the next step.

No. You don’t need to prepare a song or bring anything with you. We’ll be right there with you.

Every audition is a little different, but most take about 30 minutes.

We’ll be in touch within a day or two to talk about next steps.

In many cases, we’ll be able to let you know that evening. If we need a little more time, based on sectional needs, we’ll follow up shortly afterward.

That’s okay. Finding the right musical home matters.

If BeckRidge doesn’t seem like the best fit, we may encourage you to consider the Plymouth Community Chorus, where singers of all experience levels are welcome.

Absolutely. Sometimes the best way to know whether BeckRidge feels right is simply to experience a rehearsal.

You can Reserve A Visit, sit in, and get a feel for the music, the people, and the way we work together.

Auditions are usually scheduled before or after a Tuesday evening rehearsal at Praise Community Church.

If you’d feel more comfortable scheduling a different time, we can also arrange an audition at the studio.

We’d be happy to help. Reach out through our contact page and a member of our team will be in touch.
